Another Question

Postby Gylonso on Mon Oct 05, 2009 10:48 am

Hello again,

Thankyou for the answer to my previous question, that has been done now and everything fits in nicely.

I have another issue which I have thought of a few ways to sort it, so wanted some advice on the best way.

On one side of the kitchen we have some base units and wall units running from the wall at one end, right up to the side of a larder cupboard (with end panels to look nice) at the other end. The problem is the end wall isn't quite vertical such that there is about 5mm difference between where the base and wall cupboards end (it is the wall cupboards that finish slightly earlier). The wall cupboard at the end wall is a corner cupboard, so that would make it difficult to move the wall cupboards a long to have the gap at the wall end.

So the best option I could think of would be to cut the base units service void down by the end wall, I would have to do all the cupboards that run a long that end wall as that run includes the range cooker so if I only cut the cupboards down on one side there would be a difference between the cupboard depth either side of the cooker.

Or is there a better way to do it?

Thankyou for any help

Gyles.

Gyles,
5mm is an insubstantial amount but my advice next time would be to mark out vertical alignments on the walls prior to fitting then you are prior aware of where packing out or reduced depths are required.
On a run where there are no appliances situated, it isn't too important should you reduce depth but where they are then packing out to achieve correct vertical alignment may be necessary. Of course to reduce the possibility of alignment issues walls would have to be truly plumb but that isn't always the case even in new properties, however, 5mm isn't going to be so noticeable to your visitors, unless of course they are kitchen fitters. We pick up on every little tiny fault we see and annnounce it loudly in front of other guests - only joking. You have little to worry about here Gyles.
If packing out o noticeable depths above 5mm then my advice would be to use a replacement wall unit gable scribed to the correct depth. This can be achieved using an end panel of matching board and cutting it to the correct height and depth.
Good luck
