Deeper downturn - Corian

Postby Gavin99 on Mon Nov 30, 2009 10:44 am

Hello,

I believe standard Corian worktops are 13mm of Corian on a 25mm backing. With a deeper downturn to make the worktop look say 60mm deep is the backing increased to 47mm thick? I'm also wondering what impact this has on fitting an induction hob.

Thanks,

Gavin

Gavin,
You are correct in your statements. Corian is 13mm thick and a deeper subframe is required for deeper than the standard 38mm tops that employ a 25mm substrate.
No issues with a conventional fitting induction hob but the advice from DuPont for the fitting of a flush sitting induction model is that a 2mm gap be left around the perimeter and a 10mm radius fabricated to all corners so as not to cause stress that may fracture the material.
Personally I would render a flush fitting induction hob out of the question when fitting Corian for the unsightliness as a result of that advice but as the saying goes - 'horses for courses'
