Drew iKBBI

Hello everyone,

For the very first time there is now a magazine dedicated to the needs & interests of the KBB Installer. This has taken many months to develop (with the best editorial team in our industry) and we really hope you’ll enjoy it, can contribute to it and recognise that the iKBBI are making change happen. Enjoy …

I received a copy of the magazine in the post last week and I agree it is an industry first. I was impressed with the magazines theme and content.

Woody, Good to hear from you it’s been some time since the three of us appeared on the same post and we all needed a break after that so it’s good to start this post off where we are all on agreement.
The Installer magazine, Issue 1, contained a good blend of information, helpful articles for installers and industry news and as it is operated by the same editorial team who publish the KBB Review, in my opinion, the only industry rag worth it’s salt, I believe it will become a popular read with the installers.
Not sure I agreed with me being titled a retailer, I would have preferred something like e-tailer given the number of retailers I’ve crossed swords with over the years as a disgruntled installer but aside from that acceptable error and the fact that the photo of a certain "e-tailer" didn’t capture his best side, all is forgiven.
Some really good articles, particularly the one regarding Glenn Davey, the installer who stood firm in the face of Franke’s attempt to market his invention under their banner. His "baby", the G-Clip, has made him a wealthy man and good luck to him. That story should serve as a great example of taking your ideas to market and I know there are no shortage of ideas and inventions among installers out there.
A number of very useful articles on marketing yourself as an installer and advice on late payments added to the well answered Q&A section.
Looking forward to reading the next isuue and good luck in your continuing recruitment drive Drew.

Editor Andrew

Hi, I’m Andy Davies, the editor of kbbreview, and now KBB Installer as well. I’m glad the first issue has gone down well and, more importantly the overal principle of having a magazine just for kbb installers has been welcomed more wholeheartedly than we could ever have imagined.

Now we just need everyon’e help to make sure that we write about he things that matter to the very people it’s aimed at. I’m not a salesman, so this isn’t a pitch for anything other than input from the highly skilled anfd professional installer. So what do you think should be in it?

And Tim, my apologies for calling you a retailer, it was meant as nothing but a compliment – as much as referring to kbbreview as an ‘industry rag’!

Andy,

Welcome to our forum and congratulations on the first issue of KBB Installer magazine. I received mine digitally which is appropriately indicative of a modern institute.

Many installers are among our membership here and it would be good to here their thoughts on what should feature. Unfortunately most of them are a shy bunch when it comes to posting on a public forum unless they disagree with a post so if you don’t see disagreement with any ideas put forward I’m sure that the silent majority will be in agreement.
My comment regarding my description as a "retailer" was very much tongue in cheek and I do apologise for appearing to lowering the status of KBB Review in my description of it being an "industry rag" It was meant as a term of endearment as it is the only industry magazine that avoids my swingtop and gets pride of place in my magazine rack.
My immediate thoughts are that retailers or e-tailer members of iKBBI could offer a preferred discount or reward scheme to installer members who, after all, operate their own mobile businesses. (I’m currently working on an initiative here to try and get the ball rolling)
I’d also like to read of any initiatives that encourage more young people to enter the industry and, at the other end of the spectrum, I’d like to know how we can harness the skills of older, experienced installers and put them to best use.

Tim
