Next door have just had a local DIY supplier fit a kitchen. There is a separate electric hob wired to a cooker control unit, which is wired straight back to the consumer unit

with a 30amp fuse fitted. The oven though is wired to a three pin socket housed in the back of an adjacent floor cabinte.
Surely this cannot be correct. The oven must be wired to a correct control unit which in turn is wired back to the consumer unit. I do not have the Kw details, but cannot see how

wiring a oven unit to a 3 pin plug is OK. Or am I wrong in this?

He is having the supplier back because of further problems and telling them to rip it all out. Perhaps it is not a good idea to deal with B&Q for the sake of reputation.

Bez,

I’m afraid you are wrong here and not all ovens have to be controlled via a cooker control circuit. Most single ovens can be operated safely via the ring main circuit and fed from a

spurred socket outlet or as part of the ring main.

One interesting thing I hear today that is relevant to this post is that the Tommy Walsh Kitchen DIY Book has been recalled due to errors of information regarding electrics in the

kitchen so just in case any of you are or have followed advice given by the book, beware as it could prove not only misinformed but dangerous. I will post back when I have identified

the reason.

Just a follow up to this post. I received this response from the

Editor.

With regards to the wiring error in the book… We have sought and followed advice from various electrical regulatory bodies, as well as legal teams, regarding the best course of

action in informing the public. As a result, stock has been recalled and erratum slips are being inserted.

Notices arealso being made available to the trade and in all shops where the book can/has been purchased. If you have stocked the book yourself, your wholesaler or sales rep should

have provided you with all the information necessary.

Thank you for your concern but we are confident we have already taken every practical step in ensuring that buyers and users of the book will be aware of the problem.

Best wishes
