hello there TF
have read right thro your v helpful messages
my query is regards the efficiency of cooker hoods/extractors
the last i fitted [to instructions] seemed to blow steam out sideways
i guess the type which projects 500mm about 250mm above
the hob may work – but not nice are they
do the extending ones work ?
a good scientific study and report is needed — any suggestions ?
best wishes from TF

No Terry they’re not so nice at all unless you’re so

good a chef that you don’t need to see what you’re cooking, similar to changing gears on a car after years of driving. And anyway what about all those appetising aromas that have

you licking your lips in anticipation of what you’re about to get stuck into. They would be a thing of the past with your ideal extractor eh?

Joking aside though you do get what you pay for and the thing to look for in an extractor are the air extraction rates, for instance the Neff D2850 has an extraction rate of 810 cubic

metres per hour. It stands to reason that a lower extraction rate will be less efficient. Another factor, although not instrumental in the efficiency of an extractor, is the noise

element and all manufacturers detail this in terms of decibels in the product specifications.

Hope this helps in you making your choice.
