After 5 months of waiting I’ve finally moved into my new (old) house and am ready to refit the kitchen. The bad news is that in the process of selling and buying we lost virtually all our original cash margin which was going to pay for the kitchen. I don’t want to compromise on appliances (eg I used to have a Neff double oven and large induction hob and want one again), but its a large kitchen and I have to find cost-effective units. I’m very seriously considering Ikea (Adel Birch or Askome Ash), with Classic Quartz worktops. Is it lunacy to go the Ikea route, or is there a sensible, but still cheap alternative? Also, how can I find a kitchen fitter who can project manage all the building services required, although we are prepared to contruct the basic units from flat-packs ourselves. Any advice would be very greatfully received. |

Joy, I’m not a great fan of Ikea kitchen cabinets and from other posts I read, neither are many installers. The reason – there is no service gap at the rear of the cabinets and this makes for them being very fitter unfriendly. Classic Quartz tops are now available in 12 colours and I’m happy, when the time is right for you, to arrange a visit by one of our templater/demonstarators to show you the samples. Tim |

Tim, Thanks for the advice – I hadn’t realised their kitchen sizes were non-standard, although I know their bedding is. I would certainly prefer to support British manufacturers and will send you a rough plan in the next day or so. I’d already decided against MFI and it now sounds as though that was a good decision!
