Recently fitted new kitchen which included a Stoves 800 cooker hood. This vents outside over neighbours garden and about 1.2 meters from

neighbours windows and they are complaing about smells. Note they did origionally agree to this vent but neither of us were expecting probems.

Note I put 2 carbon filters in the hood that i got with the hood to try to help but this aparently does nothing to stop smells. DO carbon filters have a shelf life?

so questiuons are as follows

1) What are the regulations for this installation? ie is vent too close to windows etc

2) Does anyone know where to get some kind of chimney to put up the wall so smells go over house in manchester/Cheshire area

3) Does this chimney /flue need to be powered as it will be about 3 metres high and any idea of costs?

Spoke to council planning office yesterday and they require sketch to say weather i need planning permission for a chimney/flue.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

This is a tricky one but firstly I should tell you that your carbon filters will only serve to restrict the efficiency of the extractor in exhaust mode as they are required only if

you wish to use recirculation method of extraction.

Regulations regarding ventilation in domestic dwellings are covered by building regulations Part F but I’m not certain that this topic has relevance to the rules that appear.

To extend up the wall, consideration must be given to the diameter of the flue and this may need to be increased.
My advice would be to contact Stoves http://www.stoves.co.uk/contact/contact_frameset.htm
and ask their advice on how to achieve harmony.
They should be only too happy to help in the current climate of customer care that is imperative in winning your business.

Please report back with your feedback.
