I’m in the process of planning a

kitchen and would like any opinions on extractors.

I would prefer an integrated hood, but my husband fancies a chimney

hood. When he was talking to a colleague, she advised him against an integrated hood because her mum had one and it

broke.

Are there any major advantages or disadvantages of either (or any of the other types)?

Thanks

Sam

Samanthani,

Welcome to the forum.

Integrated hoods are somewhat antiquated as a design option

and are certainly on the wane in popularity, but this doesn’t mean to say that they are less efficient than chimney style

extractors.

The criteria to look for, in my opinion, is an established and reputable brand that offers greater

efficiency and longevity than their lesser efficient rivals.

Integrated or chimney style, I would strongly advise that

you research on the history and recommendations of a product first before making a decision. Groups are a good source, as is a

google search.

If, for instance, most documented opinion staes that one particular brand is most efficient and it

initially costs more than a similar looking rival, then it makes cost efficient sense to purchase it for your design because

it may offer you greater longevity, efficiency and a more reliable and efficient service back up should faults occur.
One

final tip is to look at our Recommended Associates page.
A number of manufacturers have applied but we do remain extremely

discerning as to whose products are highlighted here.

Good luck,

Tim
