I recently moved to Germany and my flat has a fitted kitchen with space for a washing machine (but no door, so I don’t need a fully integrated washer). I am having trouble finding a machine to buy that will fit the space.

The width/depth are ok for standard machine sizes, but the available height under the work surface is only 815mm. I have figured out that I need a machine where you can take the ‘lid’ off, but the sales people seem to suggest you just leave the machine ‘open’ like this under the work surface, or just fit a piece of ply over it. Is this safe? Will it be noisy?

Thanks in advance for advice/suggestions.

Sam,
The removal of the top cover is only suitable if the manufacturer informs you that it will not invalidate the guarantee.
Noise would only be affected if an applicable depth replacement cover wasn’t used.
My advice is to contact the manufacturer of your chosen machine via their website. They all have technical help representatives and are all keen to have your business.

Tim.
