We are extending

our kitchen by taking out the back doors, and obviously putting in an RSJ above the opening. However, where i want the sink/drainer to be is the pier supporting the RSJ. Is there a

sink design that would let me have 1 1/2 bowls and a drainer possibly with the 1/2 bowl positioned in front of the pier, or will I have to have solid worktops and design my own

undermounted arrangement?
Here is a rough idea of the worktop problem!

Undermounts are not suitable for laminated worktops and I

know of no sink design that will suit your needs in the configuration you describe but an alternative if you are hoping to buy laminate is to install deeper.
worktops. This will allow you to install a standard sink depth in front of the pier.
Lamninate tops are generally available up to a depth of 900mm and this can be cut down to the relevant depth.

Hope this helps.

kitchen a bit narrow for wider worktops, looks like we

might have to splash out on granite (shame!!!)

Helen,

There’s no shame in splashing out on granite.and you may wish to consider an engineered stone such as Caesarstone or Luxor.
These will offer you greater resilience, the ability to use undermounts, more scope in the design and a classic sheen finish.

There is great competition in the marketplace for these products and bargains can be sourced so my advice is to finalise your design plan and seek costings.

Keep us updated.
