I was wondering what peoples take on this was as I have came across various opinions, obviously fixing to battons would be best but what about the various cavity wall fixings out there. I have put up quite heavy things using redi drivas, would these be acceptable for fixing unit brackets, its a b and q kitchen and each unit has two brackets with two holes for fitting. I haven’t used cabinet brackets that much but with these ones it seems that you can get one side to pull in really tight but one side might have very slight movement in it, if you go looking for it that is. Would moving the brackets ever so slighty make a difference to this, I have positioned them 21mm in from each side. Any advice and experiences appreciated |

Gogsboy, I would only ever use a fixing thats up to the task and have, for many years, utilised heavy duty hollow wall anchors for hanging wall units. wall unit. Still, even these are no subtitute for a batten. They are available from major DIY outlets and specialist hardware suppliers. Hope this helps, Tim |

Hi Tim, Many thanks for taking the time to reply, I have had so much different opinions on this. I have fitted heavy items on walls before using Screwfixs RediDriva who claim they are stronger than the plasterboard itself, they also do a Heavy Duty RediDriva which they claim is designed for radiatiors and kitchen cabinets. I have seen Hollow wall anchors on the site too, however the previous fixings I have mentioned seem to be more expensive which made me think they would be better suited. Are we talking about the same type of wall anchor? Screwfix Quote 12429 Could you let me know if these are the ones you are talking about and if so what size would be best, also where I need to put the bracket there is a perfectly formed 13mm hole from where a driva has been put in too far and fell down the back, would one of these hollow wall anchors solve this. Do you know if the setting tool is essential for these too or is a driver enough. Have you ever had much dealings with the Drivas, scewfix 11923 and 12635 Even the cheaper pro gold hammer in fixings give this spec – Strength in 13mm plasterboard: Pull 40kg. Load 60kg Is this misleading, not that I would use these for anything other than curtain poles and the like. Some people also think that Gravity Toggles might be good, another that has been mentioned is the SNAPTOGGLE. Also with the hanging bracket design, surely this must reduce the chance of any unit actually coming off the wall, is it advisable to perhaps put L shaped brackets onto the top of the unit maybe.
