Hi there. I’m hoping somebody can help me regarding the flooring in my new kitchen. We’ve just ordered a new kitchen and now need to make a decision about the floor. my boyfriend is adamant that we should have a dark real wood floor as the kitchen / dining room is now all one room and he believes that real wood will be the most stunning choice of flooring. I agree but am concerned that the floor will not be practical as I understand real wood can get damaged very easily. Also I’m concerned about the cost as a quote we’ve had is for £3000 for the floor to be supplied and fitted. This sounds a lot. Room is approx 5m x 7.7m – does this price sound about right? Many thanks in advance |

Sounds a little expensive but a small price to pay if it’s fitted correctly. Try to obtain references or better still ask the firm if they will supply you with names & numbers of previous clients to contact. If considering real wood flooring in my experience you need to make sure your floor is really, really flat – you’ll need to use a self levelling compound to achieve this. You will also need to apply a PVA solution prior to laying the boards to keep out any damp. A friend of mine paid £400 to have solid oak fitted in a small living room and kitchen, not sure how much the flooring was though. Hope this helps. Tim-B |

That’s really useful thanks. I guess flooring is just expensive but I’m sure it will be worth it in the end. I will definitely look into the PVA solution and levelling off the floor as the concrete part of the floor is really uneven. Many thanks |
