Kitchen Buyer

We are about to purchase

a new kitchen and like the look of GLASS worktops that are now available from a number of suppliers.

They are supposed to be toughened BUT I have heard a rumour that they can chip easily ( I have seen plate glass chip in half moon size chunks ) especially around the sink edge ( heavy

pots and pans etc ).

Can anyone let me know of the pros and cons of a glass worktop please?

Thanks

Glass Worktops are becoming more popular in the kitchen yet as with all worktops, they

can suffer damage and are irreperable as a result.

The only exception to this rule are the man made acrylic and polyester surfaces such as Corian and Avonite which can both be returned to their former glory after damage.

This doesn’t mean to say that you should avoid using all other tops as glass like many other surfaces has it’s own particular attraction and is an aesthetically pleasing material

that can blend well with other surfaces to create a classic design look in the kitchen.

Personally, I would utilise a glass as a centrepiece on an island perhaps and it may not be the best material for the heavier practical uses in the kitchen but as with any product it

will last and retain it’s looks dependent on the person maintaining it so evn this cannot be ruled out with the use of protective boards.
