Hi,

I had my kitchen re-fitted 12 months ago, but have recently noticed that th heat from my built under gas oven & grill is damaging the edge of my laminate worktops.

Is this a common problem or is it a fault with my oven? Can anthing be done to repair the worktop?

Matt,
I suspect your oven is a built under double and they should arrive with a heat shield, (A steel profile strip) that fits above the oven flush with the end of the worktop to protect it from damage.
If this hasn’t been fitted or has not been adjusted sufficiently to protect the top, then damage will occur.
This does allow me to emphasise the importance of reading the manufacturing instructions and adhering to them however I may be on completely the wrong track here and assuming this is the case.
Let me know Matt,

Tim

Tim,

There is a heat strip fitted to the underside of the worktop but finishes roughly 10mm away from the edge of the worktop.

Should there be a gap between the heat strip and the worktop? One end has c 1mm gap between the heat strip and the worktop, but the place where the worktop is damaged has no gap between the strip and the worktop.

Could the damage be caused by a faulty oven seal as the worktop seems to be getting hot when only the oven in on and the oven is situated below the grill?

Is the damage repairable or do I need to replace the worktop?

Thanks

Matt
