Hi Tim,

I have a gas cooker with a chimney extractor positioned 750mm above the gas cooker burners. Either side of the chimney hood I want to put wall units (touching the extractor both

sides). I have already fitted base and wall units on the opposite walls of my kitchen so that the gap between the worktop and bottom of wall units is about 470mm. This was worked out

based on my kitchen companys guidelines.

However, if i do the same on the cooker side, I’m worried about the heat from the gas burners of my cooker reaching the underneath of my wall units. Is there a recommended safe

height I should position them at or is 470mm between cooker burners and bottom of wall units safe enough?

Please advise.

The

distance of 470mm is within regulatory limits and is ok and although I suggest leaving a gap of 50mm each side of the extractor, you can fit the units tight to each side.

Ok. I have managed to move the wall cabinets on each side of the hood by 31mm – i have other

obstructions preventing me from having more of a gap, so i’m happy with what i’ve achieved.

Thanks for the advice.
