I want to install my gas hob in the centre of a
1000mm. hob unit.
The unit has two drawers so the centre rail for the drawers is underneath the middle of the hob.
The work top is 38 mm. and the hob is 35 mm deep.
The distance between the top of the rail and the bottom of the hob is 35 mm.
Is this against the regulations in connection with the heat transmitted by the hob?

No.

Many hobs are installed in such a way but I have to remind you Lesley that to install a gas hob you are subject to the strict criteria of gas regulations and only if you are competent

to do so can you fit the hob yourself.

In short, you are strongly advised to have successfully graduated the relevant acredited course.

Thank you very much Tim for your information.
I have no intention of connecting the hob myself.
I thought that the chip board center rail for the drawer gliders so near and in the middel underneath the hob was maybe a fire hazard and against the regulations.
In that case I would have to remove the rail and find another way to
strenghten the unit.
The reason for my doubts was that I read somewhere that there must be a clearance of 60 mm. between the underside of the hob and anything horizontal.

Hi Lesley

I agree with Tim. However, if you are still in concerned about the heat transfer, you can purchase a support bracket in the shape of T (approximately 2″).

You can then remove the top rail, attach the above support to the back panel of your unit – or top rail if hardboard backed. The drawer runners then attach to the centre post as

usual and you fasten them to the bracket with self tapping screws. There is then obviously only the metal runner underneath the hob.

These brackets can be purchased from most kitchen manufacturers or hardware specialists.
