I have a kitchen

design which includes a 60cm built-in wide extractor fan, with cupboards situated immediately adjacent on both sides.

I would dearly like a 70cm wide gas hob, but I am worried that even with a 60cm wide hob, I will be subjecting the undersides of the adjacent cupboards to considerable steaming.

Am I Ok with 60cm wide Hob?, 70??
Is there anything I can do which does not look odd, which would protect the cupboards?

p.s. Would dearly love a chimney extractor, but location of exterior wall and joist runs means it is impossible to fit this without silly looking ductwork showing :-(

The installation area

above a hob is restricted in accordance with it’s width and height. Limits are detailed by all manufacturers in the instructions provided.
Generally free area above a hob must be 700mm minimum, although some manufacturers suggest less this is my recommendation in the absence of instructions.
The width of the hob must never be infringed by the installation of combustible material above it within these limits.
If your design does not allow the installtion being vented to outside then your only alternative is to recirculate the extractor and in this case there is no reason to restrict your

choice so you can still install a 600mm chimney extractor.
