Hi, I am installing my kitchen and have reached the stage of installing the worktops. My kitchen supplier provided me with their jig which has provision for 500mm/600mm/616mm worktop widths. I purchased their 616mm width worktops. I need to install an L shape worktop configuration. I have positioned a 3050mm worktop (I need 2950mm) against the wall and have found the extreme edges touch the wall but have a 24mm gap in the middle. I have scribed the worktop back edge to close this gap in the wall, but this will alter the width of the male to 592mm on the ends and 616mm untouched in the middle. This will give me a 10mm overhang over the cabinets. Which pin holes in the jig do I use now as I no longer have a 616mm worktop? Do I use the 600mm holes as they are the closest i have on the jig to the new sized male width of 592mm or something else? I haven’t routered the worktops yet. Please advise. |

I suggest you lie the anticipated pre-scribed male worktop on top, or beneath, dependent ogn the configuration, of the female, again pre-scribed, transfer the relevant poat form edge by aligning a square from one top to the other, and marking the front edge of it to the top that will act as the female side of the joint. Using this line as your guage, ensure that the router commences cutting from this point. It may take some adjustment but this method will be precise without the need for a depth pin. |

Dear Tim, I can’t visualise what you suggest with regard to the worktops – i have the same problem with your work top detailing in the “Installation Instructions”. Is there any chance of a diagram/pic’s? |

lkj, I do understand the difficulty of conveying this in text only and as you may already know I have been commisioned to write a book on kitchen installation. In essence though and to assist a little further I advise that the pins relating to depth of top eg 600, 615, 700mm, not be used to ensure preciseness. This requires that the postform edge of the worktop to be cut is marked using the pre-scribed adjoining worktop as your guage. |
