Excellent site and great forum, a novices dream.

I am currently planning to renew my mother-in-law’s kitchen, which at present is fitted with custom units which are 500mm deep on both sides (twin galley style). Kitchen width is

1.9m, length 5m.

I intend to Fit standard ikea units to one side and ‘customise’ others to a lesser than normal depth. Worktop is not realy a problem, however I am attempting to source a shallower

than normal gas hob (430 – 460mm). Width is not an issue.

No luck as yet.

Any thoughts on this subject, all ideas welcomed with open arms.

I’m

not aware of any manufacturer who produces a shallow hob to be accommodated in a 500mm worktop but there is a solution to your dilema here.
The twin galley kitchen is 1.9m wide and 5m long.
Installing the units at 600mm down one side and 500mm the opposite side will leave a working zone of 800mm. Not ideal, but not so far off the constraints I would reccommend.
This will allow the installation of a standard size gas hob and sink within the standard depth top and if necessary, to obtain more space, you can reduce the depth of the opposite

units still further to increase your comfort area.
