Drew iKBBI

Attention all KBB Professionals,

Over the last few weeks the iKBBI post has remained well read. This has been very helpful in recognising the institute’s interest to our industry and we would now like to appeal to the professional installer to move this forward by either applying for membership or simply giving us a call to discuss.

Five quick points I would like the “best out there” to reflect on…

1. WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. In its simplest terms our industry now has a Professional Body dedicated to the support & development of the KBB Installer. This has been talked about for many a year and with a tremendous amount of time, cost and commitment we have made this a realty for today’s professionals to enjoy. From this, the iKBBI is already gaining credibility with consumers and retailers alike and we are very proud to be in this position after such a short period of time. With the involvement of our members we will continue to develop the institute.

In building a house you must start with the foundations…. these are now firmly in place. See http://www.ikbbi.org.uk/ for further information.

2. LOOKING AHEAD. In demonstration of our continuing push for change and the building of the iKBBI awareness campaign we’ve a number of initiatives already booked…

o We’re booked for the Bathroom Manufacturers Association annual conference as an exhibitor (Oct 08), http://www.bathroom-association.org/con … bitors.asp
o We’re booked at the Expo 2009 exhibition with our own stand, http://www.kbbreviewexpo.com/

We’ve also something very special happening later this year but more on that at a later date!!

3. OUR MEMBERS. The question of “why join” is the right question to ask. Please have a look at what some of our current members are saying http://www.ikbbi.org.uk/Installer-members-say.asp and the benefits already being recognised by retailers than only use iKBBI members http://www.ikbbi.org.uk/retailer-members-say.asp

4. OUR MARKETPLACE. There is no question that we’re involved in tough times ahead. The following quote from our industry can further help in understanding why institute membership could be great for business … “When markets contract and demand reduces there is oversupply. The survivors are those businesses that offer best quality, best value and that have something better to offer than their competitors”. If your good, why not make iKBBI Membership work for you!

5. GREAT VALUE. We are already confident that membership offers great value, however to celebrate the new website launch and to encourage you to complete the online application during August, we are offering you a fantastic incentive:

Complete the online application and pay online before August 31st 2008 and we’ll start supporting your business straight away by filling your van with £50 of fuel in association with TESCO. Terms and Conditions Apply. Use promotion code: FUEL 0808 during the application.

Finally, we welcome all avenues of debate and thank the forum for this (and future) opportunities to change our industry for the better.

Regards

Drew

After listening to and participating in this debate for some while now – I have to say that I believe this is indeed a good deal for installers and I would now recommend that installers give these guys a chance at representing you.
What do you have to lose? They have a long and experienced background in the industry, they have made themselves openly available to their membership, they have been transparent in providing and discussing the route they wish to go down and they are keen to listen to their membership to ensure they represent you according to the majority’s wishes.
There’s little doubt in my mind that this will benefit the consumer as well as the members and that can only be good for all.
As mentioned in this forum, on the previous post on the iKBBI, transparency is the way forward where all discussion can be seen in order to allow potential members to make a more educated decisiion.

To further update on iKBBI’s website, the reference to a "No Quibble" guarantee has been removed. This is a good example of how opinions, once sought, are acted upon. I can’t recall many other representative bodies with as much commitment to listening to their members.
There has been a necessity for this type of initiative in our industry for a long time and I admire the way the iKBBI have entered into discussion unlike others in the this industry who became decidedly shy in sharing their thoughts.
Taking into account the £50 worth of fuel offer for August, that effectively reduces the membership cost to an annual fee of £99 for the first year, I would certainly throw my hat in the ring, if
1. I was still undertaking installations
and
2. I met the quality criteria. ( I’m sure I would have!)

It will be good to revisit this in a future forum post to hear the opinions of members on the benefits of becoming an iKBBI installer.

Tim.
