Just been reading the pro’s and con’s about the Ikea base cabinets. They are ok. I have to fit one next week. I am not looking forward to it. To try and get a straight plumb line against the wall with the recess at the back it just not right LOL . One good thing though I am getting the walls all re-plastered. The only big problem i am getting stuck on is which route to go with the services of the plumbing and electrics. I know alot of people bring it all to floor level. This is ok but i think it could be a nightmare for servicing at a later date for isolater vavles. I was think of feeding everything through the cabinets using the white plastic pipes and push-fit connectors so they match the color of the cabinets. and you will be able to get to the cut of connectors alot easier and by feeding them across underneath the shelve in the cabinet you dont really see the pipe and electric work. The electrics could be placed in trucking. Any thoughts would help me a lot. Thanks Tony |

I agree with your choice of installation here but it does highlight the problem with Ikea cabinets. They are not fitter friendly and it galls me to think that accomodation of services and an allowance for out of plumb walls, was never thought of at the design stage. I’m also aware of a growing number of installers who will not fit the Ikea cabinets or charge more if they do. This is a shame because it really shouldn’t be that great a deal to rectify the problem before they leave the Ikea factory and I do recognise that the Ikea designs are among the more attractive in their target market. Anyway, good luck with your install and let us know how you go on here. Tim |
