Hi,

I have found that when cutting out for the sink/hob etc that the blade on my jigsaw tends to go off at some stange angles. Do you think this is a problem with the blade or the

jigsaw?

I am using blades that only cut on the downstroke to minimise the chipping of the laminiate but it seems the longer blade required to cut through the worktop causes it to bend…or is

it me?

Or should I try using the router?

thanks

Using a jigsaw for hob and sink cut outs is a laborious method that I dispensed with very early in my time as an installer.
The problem you highlighted, cutting at an angle, is pretty much consistent whatever your machine and renders more frequent a blade change. This can prove costly, particularly with

downstroke blades.

My advice would be to use a circular saw from the underside, finishing the corner or radiused cuts with the jigsaw. This not only speeds up the task but ensures a square depth of cut.

Be aware of the added safety aspects however, and practice on a spare piece to perfect the method before attempting on your kitchen top.

Apply varnish or cascamite to the exposed surface with extra attention on sink cut outs. This will help to protect the top should water ingress occur

Thanks for that Tim,

I came to realise (after the 3rd blade) that something was not quite right.

As you may have guessed I have just started on kitchen fitting but hope to carry on along this line of employment. I get real satisfaction from a job well done and looking back at

the result of all the effort.

I know that the jobs I have completed so far have gone down well with the customer and this I hope may continue for a long while yet!

Thanks again for all you help and no doubt you shall hear from me again.
