I am having a travertine kitchen floor fitted – the tiles are 600 x 400 and are filled and honed. Can anyone advise whether I should get these sealed and if so what with. The tiler who is doing the job has never laid this type of tile before and infact didn’t know what they were when I showed him a sample but has assured me that as an experienced tiler he will get all the information he needs from the tile supplier. Should I go along with this or attempt to find someone who has worked with this type of tile before? suggestions greatly appreciated. |

Alan, Welcome to our forum. Unfortunately I am not the man who can offer you much advice here but you may wish to view a thread from this US Forum that offers further information about the installation and upkeep of Travertine. http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=16051 As for your Coir mat well, what is your floor construction? |

That being the case it appears you will at least, not require backer board and as long as the advice of the manufacturers is adhered to I really don’t see that a competent tiler needs to have a knowledge about the product so long as he follows the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer. |

My apologies for the last reply Alan. I completely overlooked the reason for my asking you the floor construction. Considering your floor is of a concrete construction why not utilise a metal profile that is used for commercial carpet applications such as in the following web page http://www.floorwise.co.uk/met020.htm This can be mitred to suit your requirements and a made to measure Coir mat can be fitted to it. Hope this is of help. |
