Every time I read kitchen articles there seems to be some reference to the kitchen triangle.
My own kitchen is on two levels and to place an American fridge freezer in the lower area where the sink has to be located would leave us with littlle room for other appliances we

want to use such as a range cooker and dishwasher.
The only place we have room is the upper level but this would ruin the kitchen triangle standard.
How important is this and what American Fridge freezers would you recommend ?
Our budget has it’s limitations so we don’t want to spend too much, perhaps £1400-1500.

Any help is appreciated.

The kitchen triangle is simply the

importance of the proximity of your three main functional kitchen components, sink, cooker and fridge.

This isn’t to say that they should be fitted as close as possible to each other but within comfortable limits is the criteria most designers aim for.

With the increasing popularity of range cookers and American style fridges, it is becoming more of a challenge to designers hoping to incorporate the triangle in each kitchen they

plan.

This is due to the larger sizes required to incorporate these appliances. Increased appliance space reduces the amount of storage space in a kitchen.

To retain the aesthetics of certain kitchens it may be necessary to forsake the distance factor particularly if you are intent on buying the appliances you want.
For your own kitchen I would opt for locating the fridge in the upper area in order to allow you space in the sink/cooker area on the lower level.
A dishwasher is always best located next to a sink for service and drainage reasons as well as convenience and this provides another important factor in placing your fridge in the

upper area.

To alleviate the slight inconvenience you will suffer in having to walk a greater distance to use the fridge I would recomend that you incorporate a storage cupboard for glasses and

purchase a fridge with ice-making and water facilities. This will at least ensure that you are less dependent on the sink for cold drinks at least.

I feel that the inconvenience of breaking up the ideal triangle can be fully compensated for by both the aesthetical and style advantage of installing, in my opinion, the best asset

in modern kitchen design, an American Fridge Freezer.

My choice for your budget would be the Whirlpool S20BRSB21, a stainless steel, side by side fridge feezer with ice maker facility and a water dispenser. You can purchase this for

around £1150-1200.

Hope this helps Graham
