We are thinking of replacing our tiled wall which runs along one length of worktop and behind a free standing gas cooker with laminate splashback which comes from the same range as the worktop. Our main concern in doing this is whether the splashback will warp and discolour over a period of time from the heat generated from the cooker. Can anyone advise whether we should go ahead with this idea or stick with tiles.

Osfan,
Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately you cannot install a laminate splashback directly behind a gas cooker and will have to use a non combustible material such as Stainless Steel or a suitable glass splashback.
Reference to your cooker manufacturers instructions will determine the minimum distance behind the hob that a laminate splashback could be fitted but in your case and in most others, I am doubtful it would meet the criteria
Stainless Steel splashbacks, http://www.kitchensfitted.co.uk/Kitchen … _Steel.php are available made to measure and glass splash backs are available in five colour shades, Ebony, Bride, Atlas, Cloud and Ebony in size widths of 600mm, 900mm and 1000mm.
Laminated splashbacks are generally only suitable for fitting outside of the cooker width area.
