Hi there,

I have ordered a magnet kitchen from a supplier and we’re getting our own appliances. Upon checking the cavity size for the built-in double oven, I’m told its 880mm high. The AEG oven we prefer is 890mm high and others in the AEG range are either 890mm or 870mm high.

What are the implications of buying an 890mm double oven for this unit? i.e. Will it simply overlap slightly above and below the housing OR does the oven have to be 880mm.

Cheers

Dede,

Welcome to the forum.
The implications of an increased height will affect the door size above the oven and it may impinge on a higher oven or leave too large a gap that is inconsistent with the other doors, if you chose a smaller oven.
If Magnet offered a variable door size for clients who chose a different sized oven to those they offer then you need to discuss this with the designer before purchasing but my guess is that they don’t, in which case the door may be able to be shaved an equal amount on each horizontal edge but only if the design allows it i.e a square shaker finish.
This solution is only applicable for a higher sized oven.
For a smaller oven size you would need an increased height door.
Made to measure kitchens are what they say on the box and any oven size is appliacable. Standard kitchen sizes rely on fillers or most often, on the ability of a good installer who would alter door sizes to suit an increaseed size appliance if the design allows.

Hi Tim,

Many thanks for your quick reply.

We’ll have a microwave above the oven, so I guess there should not be an issue with a door.

My worry is that the cavity (880mm) seems to be too small for the oven we’d like (890mm).
Are 880mm cavities standard? Most double ovens seem to be this height, with the exception of the AEG ones. Are AEG ovens reknowned for not fitting standard housings?

Given that the cavity is too small Dede, unless Magnet can accomodate a made to measure option which I very much doubt, you have little choice but to opt for an oven that suits.
The only other option would be to reposition the bottom shelf and to shave the surplus from the bottom door or drawer if the design allows.
This would mean relocating the bottom shelf and you would be wise to order one as an extra because it would mean cutting out the pre-fitted shelf first.

Dede,

Given that the expert answer to this would be better available from the manufacturers themselves I called Electrolux to ask them to provide you with an answer regarding the sizes of their double ovens.
After going through a tiring number of options, on two occasions, via the Electrolux contact number, and, as happens often, the phone cut off, leaving them with a contribution to their profits provided by your truly and leaving you, me and any visitor wishing to fit an AEG oven to a Magnet Kitchen, left none the wiser and most probably heading in the direction of an alternative oven.
Very short sighted of the manufacturer if you ask me.
Sorry Dede, might I suggest you try to obtain specifications for your choice via the Electrolux website.

Good luck,

Tim

Hi Tim,

I’ve done exactly that.

The oven dimensions are 872mm (built-in height), 888mm actual height.

I assume therefore that because the built-in height is slightly less than the housing height, the oven will fit.

What d’you think?

If the aperture is 880mm then an 872mm oven will fit Dede.
It is generally the case with most double ovens yet the overlapping flange may require slight alterations to the doors above or below.
Another thing to consider is to ensure that the microwave trim kit does not impinge on the top of the oven and it may mean raising the microwave in its housing in order to accomodate this.
