Hi all, I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this but here goes anyway … I have an old pantry which I plan to remove the door and frame from and fit an oven tower into it such that it appears that the ovens are fitted into the wall. The tower will have a single oven, microwave/oven combination and warming drawer. One thing that I’m unsure of though is the ventilation requirements. Although I will have a grille in the baseline plinth it is normal for tower cupboards to have a 20mm gap at the rear which runs to the top of the tower thus providing through ventilation from bottom to top. I’m wondering if this is simply because there is not much spare space in tower units … The larder I’m building into is much deeper than the tower cupboards (around 4 feet) so I need to know if it is necessary to have a grille above the ovens also or will the ventilation in the base suffice? Any thoughts gratefully accepted |

If the configuration is such that there is space above the tower unit allowing air circulation from the main kitchen then I see no reason to apply anything other than the ventilation grill in the plinth. cabinet. Grilles are avialable in a variety of finishes to match your kitchen. Good luck |

Hi Tim, Thanks for the reply. The pantry is totally enclosed (a door originally) so there is no free flow of air from the kitchen unfortunately. Once I’ve built in the ovens the only source of air to the void behind the appliances will be the plinth vent. There is falsework above the top oven where I could fit a vent to allow air to flow from bottom to top but I’m not sure about asthetics and hence the question as to whether I need one. If I must fit a grille above the ovens I’d favour something as narrow as possible. Can you recommend a good online supplier? Great forum by the way, I regularly contribute to DIYNOT on electrics/plumbing and they recommended you for this question |

Megawatt, Thanks. DIYNOT is a great forum with a number of great contributors so the praise is accepted with pride. Manufacturers instructions do vary bur their recommendations override anything else you may be advised and it may well be worth the call to a technical helpline to determine whether or not you require a vent above. Collection on our Recommended Assosiates page. The parent company is PWS who are one of the biggest distributors of kitchen components in the UK. direct. They will have a selection of aesthetic grilles of the type you are looking for. |
