I have now reached the stage of fitting the

sink – having worked out the snake-charmers nest of how the waste pipes connect, and re-plumbing to go from 1/2″ to 15mm copper, with isolators, and to a single tap instead of 2

separate ones (!), what should I do when putting the drainers into the stainless steel sinks? There are rubber washers to go below the bowls (with a ‘V’ shape, the bottom of the

‘V’ to go furthest from the bowl, but I do not know if I should use anything like Boss-white between the bowl and the drain – in other words on the upper, bowl side where the bright

metal drainer contacts it?

Emigrant,

Apply silicone sealant to the sink prior to fitting the waste. Remove excess after tightening the upper waste screw.

Boss white is a jointing compound not to be used with plastic. It’s best application is for compression joints to copper pipe where a smear of it around an olive will ensure water

tightness of the joint. Some swear by PTFE in this application but I always apply Boss White.

A little off subject but nevertheless worthwhile remembering.

Thanks Tim – I was wondering

about the silicone (saw Jordan on tv, maybe that started a strange thought line!!).
On another previously queried tack – I did get some 1/2″ to 15mm Yorkshire fittings from my local Plumb Centre, which saved a bit of messing about, but where I was connecting

isolators (compression) found that they were a perfect fit on the 1/2″ side – in fact the 15mm side needed a bit of a tweak to get a tight joint!
