I have tiled one of the 2 walls to be so treated, using 100mm tiles in 4 differing colours in a random arrangement – so far so good! The tiles are not regular square shapes, but have wavy edges – I could still use 4mm spacers in the corners to get proper squareness though, but the shapes lead to varying gaps, so grouting is not straightforward |

4mm gap between tiles of 100mm seems too large. It sounds to me like you have not managed to get enough grout in the joints, hence the cracking. You can by a proper rubber backed float for applying grout. This float allows you to press the grout in the joints and pack it in tightly. You can buy a float from a good tile shop. |

Thanks to Miles for trying to help. I eventually managed – using his tip about pressing grout in firmly; applying it in 2 layers; spraying the tiles with a mist f water to stop rapid drying out; and using a proper grout – not the cheap all-purpose stuff. |

hi, use a proper powder based wide tile grout, makes the job a piece of cake. i had the same problem, and although you can get it to look good if you use a combined adhesive /grout ;it will take a snip of the time if you use the above stuff and will look a lot better, as previously mentioned always use a grout float. |
