Dear Tim. Just to say what a great forum you have here. Found your site last night and spent 5 hours reading through all the interesting info on here. Im currently planning a new kitchen, it will be a u shaped kitchen and Im not in any hurry to finish it (single guy happy to go back to parents everynight for tea lol). So heres a couple of questions 1 Gas or electric oven ?? and why ?? 2. def going for gas hob, much better for heat control, so can the hob be wired into a 3 pin mains socket for the igniter system ? Geordie, Glad you find the site useful and welcome to the forum. sample her cooking whenever you wish. me to conjur up the culinary nightmares I now create. and indian takeaways. Right, to get back to your question, Gas or Electric oven? Electric, purely because of greater choice in a market where so few gas ovens are available. The concentration of electric ovens means that more effort is afforded in their design and specification. As from a cooking point of view I believe that most chefs prefer a gas model but they may have that luxury in the commercial world, unfortunately we don’t as domestic consumers. Who knows, this may change in the future but for now I would choose an electric oven. Why is this the norm? Well this possibly relates back to a time when power cuts and oil strikes were more prevalent. If a power cut was in force you could still use your gas oven and vice versa. As for your gas hob – yes, ignition for the vast majority of gas hobs is activated by means of an electric outlet which can be in the form of a plug and socket or a fused outlet. |

Thanks Tim, I have found some double gas ovens but you are so right the choice in electric by far out numbers the gas models. If I read your reply correctly I would be right in assuming that its purely down to supply and demand that most go for electric ? I have always had a gas oven (well all in one stand alone old fashioned cooker lol) and have always been very happy with gas performance where as my little sister swears by electric. I would go for another stand alone but the reason for putting in a built in oven is to take the strain of my knees ( I suffer from ostiarithitis in both knees). Installing an electric cooker means I will have to run a new cooker ring into the kitchen and update my CU as i have no spare ring left. I have read your comments in the manufactuers page but would you recommend any particular make or model ( you can pm me the answer if u prefer to). Cheers |

Geordie, I have no problem recommending any model that is manufactured by BSH group and Siemens, Bosch and Neff all offer great value and efficiency. There are a number of others I would be happy to mention but the price tag may be a little offputting. You can view Neff’s products from this site at th following page http://www.kitchensfitted.co.uk/links/index.php Tim |
