Do the terms slide-in and

built-in refer to the same installation practice?

I assume you mean

slot-in as opposed to slide in although both terms are appropriate.
A slot in cooker is essentially a freestanding appliance that slides into a space slightly wider than the appliance(approx. 5mm ) whereas a built under refers to an applance again

freestanding but sits into a similar size space under the worktop.
A built in applaince is one that utilises a housing or cabinet and an integrated appliance is one that has facility to fix a matching door to.

Hope this helps.
