what is the best way to get a job as a kittchen

fitter.

I have seen a course with the national training group but after the course how hard would it be to get a job

with a reputable firm after the course.

I live in london so if anyone knows of any other training that is closer i

would be very greatful for your help.

Welcome to the forum

Tom,

What experience do you already have?

The kitchen fitting course run by the NTG is currently targeted at

existiing installers which seems strange particularly given that it costs £1000+vat and is based in Nottingham.

Aside

from this I know little of any other training courses available but I believe a good way forward is to return to mentoring

which is how I learned the trade. Attending site with established installers for two or three jobs was enough for me as I

already had construction skills after serving my time as a plumber. Unfortunately this option doesn’t seem to be to be

available much either as not many companies are prepared to fork out for the long term benefits it would undoubtedly

bring.

As it has been a long term goal of mine to achieve a quality installation company, I am working as a Consultant

with one installation company, Seriously Fit Ltd, who are, at present, utilising our database of installers nationwide to

undertake installations with this mentoring ethos in mind.

The most effective way for an installer to be assessed is to

visit them whilst they are on a project and that is an ongoing process with the long term aim of providing a mentoring and

training solution for those wishing to enter the industry. This is of course a hard task to undertake but it does eliminate

the need for installers to be assessed and be out of pocket to the tune of £1500 or thereabouts, if you include accommodation

for a five day course.

Perhaps it’s time for retailers to take the bull by the horns and make a similar investment in

their installation services, that way Tom, it may give guys such as you a greater chance of entering the process and being

assured of work at the end of it.

If anyone other members are aware of a course do please leave details on the

forum.
