Hi I am an experienced kitchen fitter and would like to know what you think the best worktop jig is? I am currently using a Trend jig but would like a change, it has to have a short shoulder on the cut out, also does anyone know if the make Spot-on are any good ,if you have heard of them. Any suggestions would be helpful cheers.

Biglad,

Welcome to the forum and it’s good to see some kitchen fitters joining.
Not sure when you commenced your culinary craftmanship but my first worktop jig was made of Bakelite and cost me over £250.
How times have changed, it now seems like the world and his brother are manufacturing some form of worktop template and with such a huge choice for a product that has no mechanical or moving parts, I guess it all comes down to value for money and more importantly, the ability to create a good worktop joint..
Trend are, and forgive the pun, trendsetters for the professional fitter and have a good variety but the one jig that recently caught my eye, though I hasten to add that I have not tested its performance, is a variable angle jig that apparently offers the user perfect joints from 85 to 95 degrees. Not much of an out of square allowance but at least a step up from the normal assumption of manufacturers that design jigs only for a perfect right angled room, which both you and I know is very rarely the case.
My feeling overall is that if you are as happy with your existing template as carpenters are with their favourite Marples chisels, then its the right one for you.
A shorter shoulder you speak of is, I guess, a reference to less adjustment length if the worktops are out of square hence my suggestion.
I’ll drop you an e-mail detailing the make I speak of as we don’t generally allow advertising of products so let me know your thoughts

Tim
PS. Sorry Biglad, never heard of Spot-On jigs so can’t comment.
