After spending several weeks researching and planning our new kitchen, we have finally come up with the look that we want, and apart from one or two minor adjustments we have pretty well finalised the design. The problem we have now is where to go to purchase the units we need – we are finding it impossible to find a supplier who can provide all the units we want from stock sizes in the style that we want. If we were to try and mix and match units from different suppliers, would we end up with a disaster on our hands? Are we looking at a bespoke kitchen, or could we buy the majority of units from one supplier and have the odd few specially made to match? Any constructive comments would be appreciated. Excellent site by the way, and a great resource for people like me who want to take a hands-on approach in the planning/design of their kitchen. Kind regards John |

John, Thank you for the kind words and I’m happy you find the forum useful. It’s good to hear that you’ve taken on your own project and keep us updated on the progress It does seem that you may be better sourcing your own goods if the sizes aren’t available through suppliers you’ve tried so far. Units should not be a problem and a number of cabinet makers specialise purely on cabinet manufacture. These are predominantly available to trade only but this shouldn’t stop you. The good news is that many of these cabinet makers make to measure but unfortunately the same cannot be said for solid wood doors. in this instance, is essentially bespoke, but will prove far from a disaster and, being aware of the sizes you require, it’s only a matter of matching up door and carcass sizes. It would be interesting to learn the style of door you want and perhaps we may be of assistance in obtaining a quote for your design. The important thing to remember is that you can achieve a high quality kitchen this way if you are aware of the criterias to look for and it will, I’m sure, offer you a good saving on the cost of a normally percieved high costs of a bespoke design. Tim Thanks for the words of encouragement, I feel a little more confident in tackling this now. I’ll let you have details of the style of door/fascia we intend to use (I’ll forward the sizes on to you, with pics if I can) and you can let me know: a) if it’s possible, and b) how much it’s likely to cost. Thanks again, Kind regards JohnC |
