Tim, oven (built under) with a planned gas hob above. Do i need to insulate the surrounding worktop against the heat or is it ok because i have a hob above the oven? thanks neil. |

Neil, Welcome to the forum. The oven has its own insulation and it is ok to install your hob above it without the need for extra insulation. hob must be installed by a competent fitter who has accreditation to do so. |

Thanks for your reply Tim and just a word to say excellent site well done i wish i had found something like this when i first started my kitchen! If I may just ask a couple of quick questions what do i do with the cut out sections for the hob & sink i presume they would need sealing? I know i have to seal the sink for obvious reasons but what about the exposed cut of the laminate? Also for the Hob would you seal or use insulating tape on the cut edge as this would be exposed to heat? Thanks Neil. |

To protect the exposed chipboard against any water ingress it is advisable that you seal with varnish,PVA or Caskamite. Although hob cut outs are not as exposed to the same vulnerability as sinks, it is still advisable to carry out the same procedure as often they are exposed to spillages that can cause similar irreperable damage.
