Hi All,

First post on this forum, i’m not in the trade, so dont be too technical, lol.

I have fitted my own kitchen, and I am about to start tiling certain parts of the walls, but I need some help!!

I should add that i’m just looking for something to go between/sit ontop of work top and the wall.. To finish it of, so there isnt a gap. I’m sure you know what i mean?

OddJob,
Welcome to the forum.
Scribing the tops back to the wall would have provided you with a better finish but it is quite time consuming and dependent on the size of the gap, too much reduction in depth may significantly affect the overhang resulting in the tops of your doors being visible when viewing down from the worktop edge – not a good idea.
There were clip on upstands available in a variety of finishes to hide the gaps but these do look somewhat dated now and Rehau who did once manufacture these, don’t appear to be offering them any longer.
Others may offer a similar product but in my opinion, I think they look pretty awful.
I suppose with hindsight OddJob, replastering the affected area prior to fitting the cabinets would have saved you this trouble now and a tiled or splashback finish above would have compensated for any slight gaps which are acceptable if either of these are your chosen wall finish.
This may still be the solution if the gap isn’t so big.

Thanks for your reply Tim.

I still am going to tile the wall, but even with the depth of tile +cement, it doesnt close the gap enough. The thing is i need a upstand? at least an inch thick to hide the gap between the work top and the tiled wall……

Wow OddJob,
An inch!!!
Even a clip on upstand would require fixing points up to a maximum 15mm from the wall.
I suggest you consider replastering the area before fitting the worktops.
This way you can disregard the need for any gap fillers.

a friend has already suggested that, but wanted to see if there was any other way round it……

Its not looking good.

OddJob,
You could adhere a matching piece to the main worktop to reflect the gap at the rear but it would not look very "Ideal Home"
Get that trowel out.

Hi tim, just measured the gap again, and its 23mm, the 40mm is the max width it can be….

Does that change things?

Just to add, i was told wrong measurements on phone, before any one doubts the rest of the kitchen, as someone b1tched about this on another forum, lol.

Sorry Oddjob but my advice is still to mix up some bonding and finish and apply this to the affected area.
