Canoehq,

Welcome to the forum and I’m happy you find it useful.

This is an interesting query and ironic in

that we are adding a new page soon that will go some way to explaining the differences or as may be more appropriate, the

similarities

between different brands of engineered stone.

We have consulted an expert in this field who has

agreed to be subject to a number of questions in order to clarify the misconceptions people may have and this will, I hope,

serve to

explain the differences between the different brands.

In my opinion engineered stones are the most

suitable form of worktop for the kitchen and yes, that puts them above Corian and granite.

They offer greater scratch

and stain resistance than both, are uniform in colour and are virtually maintenance free. Their heat resistance is greater

than the acrylics such as Corian

and Hi-Macs and they are manufactured using 95% quartz for the durability required

for the everyday chores in a kitchen.

Examples of engineered stone include, Arenastone, Silestone, Caesarstone, Zodiaq

and Luxore.

To answer your question, the only difference between all these stones is their colour palettes that they

offer.

Zodiaq is marketed by DuPont the makers of Corian and as such will cost more than Luxore, a lesser known stone

with a lesser variety of colours.
One thing they all have in common is that they are more difficult to source in the UK and

are lesser known than Corian or granite but already I see that changing with the number of

requests we are receiving

for quotation on engineered stones.

Our own website offers quotation on Zodiaq but this really is proving difficult to

source and the supplier we were using has recently discarded it as an offering.

We are now talking to an alternative

supplier of another and more popular brand, Silestone which has been available in the US for many years and is a brand I have

first hand knowledge

of, having utilised the surface for two episodes of 60 Minute Makeover.

We hope to be

offering this very shortly and I will update on the site as soon as we have made progress.

Hope this goes some way to

clarifying the situation and watch this space!

Meanwhile, anyone wishing for a quotation on Silestone is more than

welcome to contact us in this regard.

Tim
