hoods

Tim, I'm nearly there with my design for the kitchen thanks to

this board and you advice, just the appliances to choose.

Can you tell me if the hoods I see need anything behind them like a hole through to the outside world or do the just re-circulate the air.

I like the integrated ones that would be seated into my bridging cab but not sure if they need anything else other than a power outlet.

If they do need a pipe to take out the heat then maybe I'll re-think !!

Thanks
Gary

Gary,

Glad to see you're almost there.
All extractors work far more efficiently if vented to the outside and the possibilty of achieving this on an interior wall has increased with the introduction of chimney extractors

and square section ducting. If the ceiling joists run favourable to your design you can install ducting above the ceiling through to outside.

The extractor is not for the removal of heat but acts as an exhaust for vapours given off during cooking - very handy if your cooking abilities are similar to mine, i.e. in no way

desirable to the nasal passage.

Anyway maybe if I point you in the direction of our article on appliances this should assist you.

Good luck.

The one

thing I'd like to ask Gary: how far is your extractor going to be from an external wall?
Could you let me know please..
