A question of colour, bold & risky or safe & classy?

Hello any Kitchen Designers out there!

I freely admit I haven’t got a creative bone in my body! but am in the process of designing a new kitchen. I’m quite practical and have a layout that I think will work well but when it comes down to colour and finish that’s a different ball game. I don’t know why but I’ve got it in my head to have black sparkly floor tiles, bright green acrylic ...

Can I install Oven above Washing Machine

Hi, I was wondering whether it would be ok to install an integrated washing machine below my built in oven. It is a column style tall unit, so I plan to make some changes to the lower section of the carcass to accommodate the washing machine, basically removing the bottom section of the carcass completely, but then strengthening the shelf for the oven by using the two tall units on either side. I already have ...

Cornices and under cabinet lighting Issues

I am about to go ahead with a wickes kitchen - Glencoe (white gloss slab with D-handle), with a quartz surface - supplied by yourselves. Trouble is I really hate the cornice and pelmet which is generally fitted above and below the wall units - it ruins the sleekness for me, and I'd like the kitchen to look like an expensive European one without a massive budget (they never have these cornices/pelmets on white gloss ...

Upstands. All the way rpound?

Fitting a new kitchen. Decided on using an upstand rather than tiling. Plan is to have a stainless steel or glass splashback behind the hob area.

Need 2 bits of advice. Firstly, what generally looks better, continuing the upstand behind the hob and then continuing up to the extractor with the splashback or installing the splashback from the worktop surface upwards (ie with a break in the upstand).

The other problem I have regards the ...

Low window in kitchen - design ideas needed

We have a sash window in the kitchen of our Victorian House. Unfortunately the layout is such that we have to have the kitchen worktop running right across the window.

The actual window sill is around 30cm below the worktop surface. The window frame is not flush with the wall - it protudes about 15cm either side of the window. The window does open but it is not used in practice.

We have just removed ...

Invisible kitchen

Anyone got any tips on how to make my kitchen invisible?

I'm planning to renew my kitchen, and I don't want it to look like a kitchen. More like a dining room / lounge. I've got a butler's pantry where I plan to put all the storage, but I want to make the rest of the necessary stuff - sink, hob, oven, fridge - as unobtrusive as possible.

Can you get hobs that completely disappear ...

Worktop Upstand - Ideas for behind sink??

Hi, I am about to replace all my worktops and upstands for new. I have a stainless steel splashback wich I am going to put behind the hob, therefore the upstand will stop at the splashback and then start again the other side of it (600mm gap in upstand where splashback will go).

My question is, what shall I do behind the kitchen sink? There are no tiles in the kitchen, except on the floor, ...

Spacing of Appliances

Hi

We are currently designing a replacement kitchen in a relatively small space and want to install a 600mm ceramic hob adjacent to a tall larder cupboard but are wondering whether this would be ok. There will be a large space the other side of the hob. Whilst it might not be best practice is there a regulation that says you shouldn't do it.
