Sealing body of worktop against wall, cooker, hob/sink

My worktop

(made by Bushboard) has been fitted by professional kitchen fitters. I believe the cut surfaces have not been sealed; the manufacturer's fitting instructions are absolutely explicit

- "all edges must be sealed... either with laminate... or a coat of silicon adhesive or .. 2 coats of polyurethene varnish"

It has been extensively cut on sides, back edge and for hob/sink . It has a right angle joint also, don't know if that has ...

worktop sealing profile

I occassionally

fit replacement worktops, and a problem which crops up nearly every time is the fact that once the original worktop was installed, the walls were then tiled. In some cases this can

make it impossible to fit a new worktop without removing the existing tiles. If the tiles have been applied to plasterboard with a void behind then usually the plasterboard breaks

before the tiles let go. Lots of mess and extra work. ...

Ceramic hobs

I am having problems researching the advantages / disadvantages of ceramic hobs. i have always been a "gas girl", but i like the flush

look and touch controls of the new ceramic hobs. Does anyone have experience, or can you point me in the direction of useful info? Whenever i do a google, all i get is price

comparison sites.
Thanks in anticipation
(this could become a habit!!!)

Sealing hob

My ceramic hob came with a kind of foam seal which I stuck on and then put it in but I'm a bit concerned that it won't prevent larger quantities of

water from penetrating. It doesn't tell me to use any kind of sealant in the fitting instructions but I was thinking of using some silicone sealant to make it 100% water-tight.

Obviously this will make it a pain to remove but is that the ...

nearly there

Hi Tim

Well i am almost there; a week off work and the job has gone pretty smoothly. I could not have done it without the advice given in this website. I did cop out on a few things , the

worktops were machined to length and the joints cut by a work collegue of mine( chippy). and he also cut the mitres for the cornice which using a standard mitre and fine toothed saw ...

rip off??

Hello Tim,
Yesterday I was impressed by lighted shelves in a kitchen show room but was considerably dismayed when told the price £250 each. They consisted of a glass shelve 1m

long with the light concealed in the shelf bracket under the glass. Any idea where I can obtain these at a reasonable price?
Similarly 6mm mdf splash back was quoted at £250 per sq meter?

Regards ~Phed~

Leaking round sink

I've got two round bowl sinks with

very little in the way of installation instructions.
Basically they leak when full of water. I tried tightening up the bolt in the centre of the plug hole to compress the rubber seal more and it improved but is still leaking.
The seal is a rubber kind of gasket that sits between the plastic drainage piece and the bowl itself. When the slotted bolt in the centre of ...

Plumbing - adapting from 5/8" to 15mm?

I am close to the point where I use all the good advice from this site to plumb in the new sink & mixer tap, but find that the supply into, and

from, the stop-tap is old-fashioned imperial - seems to measure 5/8".
Is the any other way of connecting this to new 15mm copper other than carefully filing down the oversize pipe? This is the only advice I have been able to get from ...
