B & Q design

Postby gas on Sun Jan 04, 2004 8:38 pm

Great website Tim, I have

made lots of notes just by browsing this forum.

I am designing myself a b & q kitchen and have a question you may be able to help with.

I am also purchasing a build under cooker which I have purchased a cabinet for and also am about to buy a fully integrated dishwasher.
My question is does the fully integrated dish washer need a cab or does it just slide into a 600mm space in my design ?

Also does the worktop rest on top of the dishwasher ?

I have put a 1000mm base unit in the corner of my room and was going to put the d/w against it coming along the wall. if the d/w was a 500mm cab i would buy a corner post and attache

the 1000 to the 500 - how would I attach the d/w to the 1000mm cab if the 1000mm cab is in the corner of the kitchen.

Thanks
Gary

Gary,

Thanks for the kind comments.

Integrated dishwasher do not require a cabinet and can be installed after the worktops have been fitted. They are adjusted using the appliance feet and are then fixed to the underside

of the worktop through the brackets provided - (use protective foil on the worktop area above to protect against water absorption).

You will still require a corner post to allow for the opening of your dishwasher door without infringing the corner cabinet door.
I suggest that you attach this to an end panel, leave the necessary space for your dishwasher and install the next component. (It may sometimes be necessary to create a wider corner

post if you are fitting deeper than normal door handles to the corner cabinet return door)

Then complete the above steps after installing your worktops.

Protective Foil

Hi Tim.
Do you a supplier of this protective foil? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Many thanks

Rob,

When I say protective foil i refer to a strong quality tin foil to act as a barrier against water ingress. (The foil available off the shelf at your supermarket).

Most new dishwashers include in the fittings pack, a metal sheet the width of the dishwasher that acts as protection for the front edge of the worktop and this will be sufficient

alone if the worktops are laminate.

Foil application is important in the area above the dishwasher for solid wood worktops in addition to the metal protector or if the dishwasher does not include the metal sheet I

mentioned above.

Rob,

Let me know if you are having trouble registering and I will complete this for you. Just send me an e-mail - tim@kitchensfitted.co.uk

Thanks Tim,
It was me actually, I forgot my password for a while.
I will get myself down to Asda to get the foil.

So, does the integrated d/w just slide into a 600mm gap and butt up

against the end panel then ?
Should I get an end panel for both sides bearing in mind I'll have a non-integrated washing machine on the other side of the i/d/w ?

Thanks
Gary
