Oak units - what colour worktop???

Postby bazbaz on Fri Nov 14, 2008 12:56 pm

Hi, i have never joined anything like this before but i am at my wits end trying to decide what colour worktop to have and was reading some of the questions and answers and thought that this may be the only was of saving my sanity!! We have ordered our kitchen (Broad Oak Natural by Second Nature) which we love but we just cannot decide what worktop to have. We are quite prepared to pay for a granite or silestone if it is the right one. My hubby is adamant that he dosnt want black granite (which is what seems to be on any Oak kitchen that you see!) as everyones having it and also thinks because of this it will date easily? We cant even decide if we want light or dark. We have pondered over Silestones Marron Jupiter and some of the lighter ones, Cesearstone Caramel, Gemini Champagne Burst, a lot of the granites have a lot of pattern which we dont really like. We have a fair amount of natural light in our kitchen (it faces east) but it is quite narrow (21ft x 9ft). Does anybody have these units or would be grateful for any advice as i am now getting quite desperate as this decision of course governs floor and walls and we want it to be done by xmas!! many thanks!

I've recently installed exactly the same units in my kitchen and just had Silestone Stellar Negro and love them.

Matt, thanks fo your input here and although Spectrum Black/Stellar Negro is a popular choice, other, lighter surfaces will work just as well here. Silica Ivory, Silica Beige and Saxum Beach from our Prestige quartz range are three that spring to mind.
We are soon to upload a dedicated website detailing a brand new surface, Classic Quartz, and this surface is pioneering in all aspects. It is already available in 12 colours both darks and lights and a further four colours will be made available in 2009.
Classic Quartz is, as detailed in a precvious post in our Corian and Quartz forum section, an 8mm quartz surface bonded to a water resistant MDF substrate and comes with a 10 yr limited warranty just as other quartz surfaces do.
It can be fabricated to different depths without the associated cost differences you would expect and is generally between 25 to 45% less than our Prestige Quartz costs which is some achievement given that Prestige is among the most affordable of quartz surfaces in the UK.
The major advantage though, is that for the first time, we are able to bring the showroom to you wherever you may reside in the UK and at the same time we can undertake templating as well as allowing our clients the ability to see larger samples of the surfaces we sell.
Already we have taken a number of orders despite very little publicity and this surface meets the needs of those seeking both high quality and savings as the credit crunch kicks in.
If this is of interest bazbaz please let me know and I will arrange someone to call you and arrange a visit. Before this you may wish to obtain a quote so do send the sizes you require to info@kitchensfitted.co.uk and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at the cost.
Any other visitors wishing to arrange a visit please e-mail me direct or if you require more information then please do likewise and I will answer any questions you might have.
The surface will not be available for fitting to existing surfaces as I believe this method to be flawed given that the substrate would be far inferior to the MDF we are using.
Oh, and before I forget BazBaz, we have both darks and lights in the collection including a black with mirror flecks.

Bazbaz,
Good choice of colour and just to clarify that all quartz surfaces are manufactured on a Breton Machine so the properties of all are the same. In the case of black with mirror flecks, if you place Spectrum Black, Luxore Diamond Black, Apollo Astro Black, Classic Quartz Luna Black and Stellar Negro side by side, you'd be very hard put to tell one from another so cost plays a major factor in the current financial climate.
Good luck with your project,

Tim
