Luxore worktops update Free Sink offer

Postby Maire on Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:22 pm

Hi

I have Luxore work surface, just over two years old. I chose it because of it's beauty but more importantly it's durability as per product information.

It has chipped badly twice, the last time a 3/4 inch chip when a glass was knocked over. The fall was slowed down by an attempt to catch it and the glass only broke from the stem but did not shatter. A friend was with us and none of us could believe our eyes.

I just want your opinion on whether this is normal or whether I have a faulty batch of quartz.

thanks Maire Stafford

Ps this was not supplied by you.

Maire,
Thanks for posting this rather surprising information on our forum.
Regardless of whether it was a top we supplied or not it is a cause for great concern given that I have witnessed hammer blows take some time to make an impression on certain quartz surfaces.
In answer to your question it's certainly not normal and my best guess is that it is indeed a manufacturing fault.
We no longer offer Luxore and have not since I discovered that the guarantee period was a statutory 12 month period. This may well have changed since my decision and if so I stand to be corrected.
It is a policy of all we now offer, among them, our quartz surfaces, that they carry a suitable manufacturers warranty and you'll find that all our surfaces have a minimum 10 year manufacturers warranty.
The warranty, like all solid surface or quartz surface warranties, is only applicable should a manufacturing defect be discovered and I inform all our clients and potential clients to obtain suitable insurance cover to ensure accidental damage is insured against.
It is often misinterpreted by potential clients that the warranty offerd on Corian and Quartz surfaces does cover accidental damage but I hope this post will put that to bed now.
Getting back to your own issue, any surface is more vulnerable att the exposed edges and it would be good to learn whether the chip occurred on the edge of the surface or on the flat.
It may well be that your existing policy covers damage to your worksurface and this should be investigated.
It's also worth a punt contacting your original supplier to ask his opinion. Perhaps you could send them some images of he damage in helping hem to determine the cause.
