When you have a built in appliance fitted would you have it wired into a socket in the wall behind the next cupboard along as i assume there wouldnt be room behind the appliance for it??

If it is wired into a socket behind the next cupboard along, is there room behind the units, or do you need a backless cupboard unit for access?

Cheekythomas,
This can be achieved using a surface mounted backbox and switched socket outlet fitted to the interior of the rear cabinet panel or to the interior side of an adjacent cabinet. In the case of there being a hardboard rear panel, fit the socket to the interior side gable. Feed the appliance flex under and into the rear void and through the back panel after drilling a suitably sized hole.
A sealed plug, which most appliances employ, will need to be replaced for one that can be manually wired unless the void will accommodate it's size using a holesaw. Make sure you retain the length of the appliance flex should servicing be required at a future date.
As with all electrical work this has to be undertaken by a competent person and in accordance with electrical Part P regulations
