Positioning a hob in front of a window?

Postby monty on Thu Jan 28, 2010 10:34 am

In combining a modest kitchen with a modest dining area, I have a space for a kitchen diner which has three windows. A suitable layout has been difficult to acheive, is it at all possible to position a hob in front of a window? I wonder if you had a completely non opening window, and a clear toughened glass 'splashback' could this work? My main objective is not the view as such, but to maintain as much daylight as possible given that the windows are north facing.

Not the ideal location Monty and not recommended given the combustible materials breach of minimum distances required. More often than not you will come across the danger of curtains catching fire or the danger of reaching over a flame to open your window and it's just pure common sense to avoid these but the regulations are quite clear on minimum distances for combustible materials above gas hobs and the default height is 750mm. Given that a window reveal may not breach this I will investigate a little further and report back and hopefully put this recurring dilemma to bed.
Sorry for the delay in coming back to this I was hoping that some Gas installation expert might relieve me of having to respond but I guess to commit here is to be held responsible hence me coming back to you when I hear it from the horses mouth
