sagging bridging units

Postby chunky on Wed May 20, 2009 6:38 pm

We have installed ourselves 2 x 500mm bridging units between 2 x 500mm larder units to accommodate the currently trendy american fridge.
It looks good, but the bridging units seem to be sagging.
We have screwed them to the adjacent larder units and together in the middle. Double checking levels has confirmed that the two larder units are level, but the bridging units sag around 6mm in the centre.
Not only does this not look right, it will impact on the cornice when affixed.
Does anyone have any suggestion how the sagging can be mitigated please.
many thanks for your time

Your bridging units require bracing and you can achieve this using two straight pieces of 2" x 2" hardwood battens spanning both tall larders and fixed from the underside of the bridging units.
This will prevent the sagging and the cornice should act to conceal the battens.
