What are Silestone® worktops?

What are Silestone® worktops made from?
Quartz is a naturally occurring material found almost everywhere, and is known for two particular features which are very relevant to kitchen worktops. The first is that quarts is a particularly hard, durable material. In fact, the very world 'quartz' means 'hard'. There's a scientific scale used to measure the hardness of materials, with diamond being the very hardest material known to man ranked at the top as level 10. Quartz is at number 7, demonstrating clearly that where durability is concerned, there's very little that's going to be much tougher, unless you want your kitchen worktops made from pure diamond! But the other aspect of quartz is its appearance. It's no wonder it has been used in jewellery, since it sparkles beautifully. But it's also found in many forms, with different shades and colours, giving this material a diverse range of appearances.
