What are Silestone® worktops?

Silestone® worktops have introduced a whole range of new possibilities as far as kitchen worktops and kitchen designs are concerned. Combining exquisite and unmistakable style with a thoroughly hygienic solution and almost unrivalled versatility,
Silestone® worktops are the ideal worktop of choice for anyone who demands a kitchen that can work as hard as they do, can cope with the rigours of a thriving family environment, can make a bold statement about style, and be flexible enough to move away from standards, ready-mades and off-the-shelf products.
Although much has been heard of Silestone® kitchen worktops, and perhaps like many people you've seen the glossy brochures with astonishing pictures of kitchens which look out of this world, there's less understanding about what Silestone® really is, why it offers the level of versatility it does, why it represents a much safer and more hygienic kitchen solution, and what is possible in terms of style, design and appearance.
The first thing to say is that Silestone® is a composite, but is largely made up of quartz. The other materials in the construction are mainly chemical compounds which have a natural anti-bacterial resistance to them. It is this unique blend which makes Silestone® worktops able to offer strength and durability as well as versatility and hygiene. Let's look a little more at how this blend works, and what the advantages really are.

What are Silestone® worktops made from?

Quartz is a naturally occurring material found almost everywhere, and is known for two particular features which are very relevant to kitchen worktops. The first is that quarts is a particularly hard, durable material. In fact, the very world 'quartz' means 'hard'. There's a scientific scale used to measure the hardness of materials, with diamond being the very hardest material known to man ranked at the top as level 10. Quartz is at number 7, demonstrating clearly that where durability is concerned, there's very little that's going to be much tougher, unless you want your kitchen worktops made from pure diamond! (Call us for a quote.)
But the other aspect of quartz is its appearance. It's no wonder it has been used in jewellery, since it sparkles beautifully. But it's also found in many forms, with different shades and colours, giving this material a diverse range of appearances. By combining the durability and strength of quartz with its sparkly, coloured appearance, Silestone® worktops manage to offer both strength and style - the two ideal qualities necessary in any working kitchen.
But where Silestone® differs from plain quartz worktops is in its integration of MicroBan® anti-bacterial technology. In addition to the quartz, Silestone® worktops include chemical compounds embedded throughout the material which have naturally occurring anti-bacterial properties. This means that Silestone® worktops offer a much increased level of hygiene compared to almost any other worktop available.

The four advantages of Silestone® worktops

So we have three clear advantages of Silestone® worktops so far - its rugged durability, its good looks, and its hygiene. Can we add a fourth benefit? Indeed we can, because Silestone® provides the ability to cut, mould and fabricate worktops and units to almost any shape and size, accommodating even the most demanding of designs. This allows us to create Silestone® worktops or units to fit any kitchen and any design. In fact, you can simply sketch out your dream kitchen, include the measurements, and we'll be able to create a Silestone® worktop or unit to suit.
This range of benefits which Silestone® offers also makes it an ideal material to use in a host of other environments too, from kitchens to dining rooms. Even at the workplace in dining areas, bars, reception desks and offices - the list of possibilities is endless. Silestone® has only one real limit - and that's the imagination of the designer.
Silestone® worktops are chip-proof, crack-proof, dent-proof and scratch-proof, meaning that your kitchen worktops will
continue to look stunning for many years. There's very little that you can't throw at a Silestone® worktop, and whatever your cooking style, your worktop won't let you down. The colour is smooth and solid, with no variations, fluctuations or non-matching segments. The entire appearance is smooth and consistent.
Of course, you may find yourself not wanting to cook, make tea, prepare food, let your kids do their homework, entertain, eat or place piles of magazine on your new Silestone® kitchen surfaces in case they become covered up. But remember, Silestone® worktops are not works of art - they just happen look like that
