Tonight with Trevor Macdonald Project
Over a period of four weeks a terraced property in Dingle, Liverpool, was chosen as the subject of an amazing transformation for the programme to highlight the growing number of dissenting voices among residents opposed to being re-housed in new build apartments and in favour of a renovation scheme to update their existing properties. Tim was commisioned as Project Consultant for the show and, in collaboration with the designer, Julia Kendell and Granada producer Kim Hughes, whom he has worked with previously on 60 Minute Makeover, set out to prove that a derelict property could be transformed into an attractive property refurbished to a high standard for an equivalent cost to demolition.
Being a "Manc" I must say it was a daunting prospect even entering Liverpool with my accent never mind the difficulty of the project I was asked to undertake, but I felt it was extremely important to utilise local builders to undertake the work and I was indeed fortunate to unearth a team of guys who are a credit both to their trades and to Liverpool. I hope I went someway into building a few bridges across the East Lancs Rd and I trust my respect for the Scousers is reciprocated. Below are some images taken when we first entered the house. As you can see, it took an almighty transformation to bring it up to a habitable standard. The programme, a two part special, aired in two parts on May 16th and May 20th 2005.
